Abstract

This paper aims to discuss female representation through a content analysis of the 1934 and 1935 editions of Escola magazine. The corpus of analysis consisted of four issues of Escola magazine, published in the 1930s in the state of Pará, Brazil. Methodological procedures used documentary research and content analysis to identify discursive topics of the authors of the articles that indicate female representation in the periodical. The analysis highlighted the female presence of normal teachers, teachers, and school principals, whose articles offer contributions and reflections on the designations of the Renovation Movement in education, pedagogical critique, and the dissemination of the ideas of the New School in Pará. Escola magazine, as an instrument of pedagogical innovation in Pará's education at the time, featured female voices, highlighting the role of women in Pará's education, although this was not always common in other sectors of society at the time.
