Sergio González Miranda holds a degree in Sociology from the University of Chile and a Master's degree in Urban and Regional Development Planning from the Pontifical Catholic University of Chile. He also has a postgraduate degree in Social Sciences from the Latin American Faculty of Social Sciences (FLACSO), a PhD in American Studies with a specialization in International Relations from the University of Santiago, Chile, and a PhD in Education from the Christian Humanist Academy University. He has been the lead researcher on various projects for the National Commission for Science and Technology (CONICYT) and the National Fund for Scientific and Technological Research (FONDECYT). After receiving the National History Award from the Ministry of Education in 2014, he was recognized as an Illustrious Son of Iquique, and later joined the CONICYT Council (2017) and the Humanities Committee of the National Accreditation Commission of Chile (CNA). He has published several articles in specialized journals and books in his three areas of expertise: cross-border relations, saltpeter mining, and education. He has also served as a professor and academic at the University of Tarapacá in the cities of Iquique and Arica.
